My PBC Democratic Party
The Democratic Party of Palm Beach County is committed to promoting Democratic Party ideals and principles; coordinating Democratic Party activities in Palm Beach County; recruiting and electing qualified Democratic candidates for public office; developing an effective grassroots organization to carry out Democratic activities; and raising the funds necessary to complete these objectives.
Democratic Executive Committee (DEC)
The Democratic Executive Committee (i.e. the DEC) is the governing body of the Democratic Party of Palm Beach County. The DEC is a working organization, composed of one Committeeman and one Committeewoman each who are elected from each of PBC's 767 Precincts. Additional DEC members include Democratic Elected Officials and appointed At-Large representatives, who can comprise no more than 10% of total membership.
Members of the DEC (who also are known as Precinct Captains) represent the registered Democrats who live in their Precincts, serve as the Party's liaison to their Precincts and other Democrats, and are responsible for helping get out the vote within their Precincts during elections. Precincts are divided geographically into 12 Zones throughout PBC, from Zone 1 in northern PBC through Zone 12 in the western part of the county. (Click here for Zone information)
The DEC is the component of the PBC Democratic Party which elects the Party's Officers, including the Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and our State Committeeman and Committeewoman, who represent PBC within the Florida Democratic Party. Members of the DEC also approve the Party's constitution, rules, budget, policies and procedures and actively work on various standing and ad-hoc committees which carry out the Party's objectives.
The DEC is the basis for PBC's Democratic Party grassroots activities and our overall team effort throughout Palm Beach County to elect Democrats at every level of government. The Party relies on DEC Members to organize their Precincts and help find volunteers within the Precincts to support our grassroots efforts. The DEC also supports the organization of Democratic Clubs throughout Palm Beach County (of which there currently are 27), initiates and implements voter outreach, and carries out many other activities to further promote Democratic principles and help win elections.
