Palm Beach County has always been a place people dreamed about living. From our beaches and parks to our diverse communities and growing economy, it offers an incredible quality of life. But for many residents today, that dream is becoming harder and harder to afford.
The rising cost of living is putting enormous pressure on working families, seniors, young professionals, and even longtime residents who never expected to struggle financially in the communities they call home.
Housing costs continue to rise at a pace wages simply cannot keep up with. Renters are facing dramatic increases year after year, while first-time homebuyers are finding themselves priced out of the market entirely. Even middle-class families with stable jobs are having trouble finding homes they can reasonably afford.
At the same time, homeowners are being hit with skyrocketing insurance premiums, rising HOA fees, increased utility costs, and higher everyday expenses. For seniors living on fixed incomes, these increases can be devastating. Many are being forced to make difficult decisions about whether they can continue living in the communities where they have spent decades building their lives.
Palm Beach County also faces another growing challenge: the people who keep our communities running increasingly cannot afford to live here. Teachers, firefighters, healthcare workers, hospitality employees, retail workers, and service professionals are being pushed farther and farther away from the communities they serve. Longer commutes create more traffic, more stress, and less community stability.
This is not just a housing issue. It is an economic issue, a workforce issue, and ultimately a quality-of-life issue for all of us.
We need leadership willing to focus on real solutions:
- Expanding workforce and attainable housing opportunities
- Addressing skyrocketing property insurance costs
- Supporting responsible development and infrastructure
- Protecting homeowners and renters from predatory practices
- Investing in transportation and smart growth planning
- Ensuring Palm Beach County remains accessible for future generations
Growth itself is not the problem. Palm Beach County is growing because people want to live here. But growth without planning and affordability creates instability and inequality.
The strength of our county has always come from the people who live and work here every day. If we allow Palm Beach County to become affordable only for the wealthy, we risk losing the diversity, energy, and sense of community that make this place special.
This conversation should not be partisan. It should be about protecting the future of the communities we all love.
The question is simple: What kind of Palm Beach County do we want to leave for the next generation? Now is the time to start answering it!
